Also let it be noted… a certain restaurant denied accommodations to a disabled vet and his service animal. ![]() The ADA is an agency of the US Dept of Justice Civil Rights Division. A formal complaint will be made with the ADA and I hope Stater Bros managers will be able to understand the law as it is written by the American Disabilities Act. So, I just called corporate and they are having the DM give me a call in the morning to find out my side of the story. There are heavy fines placed on corporations that deny disabled persons their civil rights. being disabled I could NOT shop the way he wanted me to shop. He said my dog could stay in the store but he made it impossible for me to be able to shop. The ADA is a division under the Dept of Justice and what the Ass Mgr did was violate my civil rights. The ADA is cracking down on establishments and organizations that do NOT follow the rules of the ADA. She was just quietly sitting in the seated part of the cart… doing her job. my dog was NOT out of control or posing a threat to others. I will call corporate office and file a formal complaint with the ADA. This man would not listen to my explanations. I also explained being on the leash and walking the dog was not feasible either because she has to be close to me and she is so small she would get run over by a cart. I also explained due to my disability I had to have the dog near me. I explained to him that I am disabled and it would be a burden on me to try to roll the cart AND carry the dog. is this a place in the cart where people sit and he answered yes… I told him then a service animal can sit there too. I had my dogs papers in my hand and a card from the ADA outlining all the rules and regulations. I explained to him that I am a disabled veteran and this is a trained and registered service dog. he never showed me the policy from the health dept.) He said I would have to hold the dog or walk it on the leash. he approached me and said oh no the dog cannot be in the cart due to health regulations (store policy. I explained to her that it was a service dog and as long as people are able to sit there, then, a service dog is permitted to sit there according to ADA law. One of the cashiers told me I could not have my dog in the part of the cart where kids sit. Today, I walked into Stater Bros with my registered service dog (Chihuahua) as I am a disabled vet.
